Office LTSC 2021 is the latest version of Microsoft productivity software available to businesses through a volume license agreement.
Important
Office LTSC 2021 is separate from Office, which is available in Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) plans. For example, if you've deployed Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise to users in your organization, you don't need Office LTSC 2021. Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise already has all the features that are included in Office LTSC 2021, along with many more features that are included in Office LTSC 2021. they are not included in Office LTSC 2021.
Office LTSC 2021 is available for enterprise administrators to download and deploy to users in their organizations. The following volume-licensed Office products are available for devices running Windows:
- Office LTSC Profesional Plus 2021
- Office 2021 LTSC-Standard
- Professional project 2021
- Standard project 2021
- Visio LTSC Professional 2021
- Visio LTSC-Standard 2021
These Office products use Click-to-Run instead of Windows Installer (MSI) as their installation technology. But the way to activate these Office products, for example with the Key Management Service (KMS), remains the same.

What has changed in Office LTSC 2021?
Below are the changes in Office LTSC 2021 compared to the volume licensed version of Office 2019.

If you are migrating from Office 2016 to Office LTSC 2021, you should also review the changes documented inOffice 2019 Overview (For IT Pros). The main difference between Office 2016 and Office LTSC 2021 is the change in installation technology from Windows Installer (MSI) to Click-to-Run.
Privacy Policy Settings
The following policy settings are available when using Group Policy:
- Configure the level of client software diagnostic data that Office sends to Microsoft
- Allow the use of connected experiences in Office that analyze content
- Allow the use of connected experiences in Office that download online content
- Allow the use of connected experiences in Office
This policy setting is located in User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Office 2016\Privacy\Trust Center in the Group Policy Management Tool.

The "Allow the use of additional optional connected features in Office" policy setting is also available for Office LTSC 2021. However, this is not considered a change as this policy setting is already available for volume licensed versions Office 2019.

support duration
Office LTSC 2021, including Project and Visio, has five years of general support. Extended support is no longer available for these products after the end of the five-year mainstream support period. For more information, seeMicrosoft Lifecycle Policy.
Microsoft Teams
Office LTSC 2021 includes the Teams client app. When the user launches the Teams client app, they are prompted to sign in. Users whose Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account is linked to an existing Teams, Microsoft 365, or Office 365 service plan can use that account to sign in to their existing licensed version of the Teams service.
Users without an existing Teams license can use the free or exploratory Microsoft Teams service.
The free version of Microsoft Teams is intended for users who don't have an existing Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account. For more information, seeManage the free version of Microsoft Teams.
The exploratory experience is for users in an organization who have existing Azure AD accounts but are not licensed for Teams. For more information, seeManage Microsoft Teams exploratory license.

language help
Office LTSC 2021 adds support for the following three languages:
- English (UK), a gb
- French (Canada), fr-ca
- Spanish (Mexico), es-mx

These three languages are not available in Project or Visio.
OpenDocument-Format 1.3
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in Office LTSC 2021 include support for OpenDocument Format (ODF) 1.3. For more information, seeOffice applications now support the OpenDocument 1.3 format.

Several other Office Add-in JavaScript APIs are available with Office LTSC 2021. They include the following sets of requirements.

Office-Telemetrie-Dashboard
Office-Telemetrie-DashboardIt is no longer included with the Office installation and is not compatible with Office LTSC 2021.
Customers use OneDrive for Business (Groove)
The OneDrive for Business (Groove) client is no longer included with the Office installation and is not compatible with Office LTSC 2021.
Energy visualization in Excel
Power View is not available for the version of Excel included with Office LTSC 2021. Power BI is the recommended tool for visual data exploration and reporting. For more information, seeRoadmap for Power View in Excel.
What stayed the same in Office LTSC 2021?
You can use the same software distribution tools as Microsoft Configuration Manager to deploy and update Office LTSC 2021 that you currently use to deploy and update volume license versions of Office 2019.
The way to activate volume licensed versions of Office also remains the same. For example, with Key Management Service (KMS) or Multiple Activation Key (MAK). For more information, seeOffice volume activation overview.
The major version of Office LTSC 2021 is 16.0, which is the same major version as the volume license versions of Office 2019 (and Office 2016). The same major version provides the following benefits when upgrading from Office 2019:
- Existing Group Policy settings will continue to work because those settings are still stored in the following registry locations:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Políticas\Microsoft\Office\16.0
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Políticas\Microsoft\Office\16.0
- Other registry locations and configuration information that reference 16.0 still apply.
- Add-ins and other extensibility solutions that are compatible with volume licensed versions of Office 2019 are likely to be compatible with Office LTSC 2021 or require minimal testing.

Please note that Office LTSC 2021 includes some, but not all, of the features available in versions of Office that come with a Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) plan.
Office LTSC 2021 will not receive any new features after its release. If you want to keep getting new Office features, consider upgrading to a Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) plan that includes Office. Many business plans include Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, which include the same Office apps as Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021. How do I upgrade to Office LTSC 2021?
We recommend that you uninstall existing versions of Office before you deploy Office LTSC 2021. You can remove most Office products that were installed with the Windows Installer (MSI), such as Office 2016 or Office 2013, from your device as part of installing Office LTSC 2021. However, you should evaluate the compatibility of the application and other factors that may require the use of the 32-bit version. - After downloading the installation files, an Internet connection is not required to install Office LTSC 2021. An Internet connection is required for MAK activation, but not for KMS activation. Once activated, no internet connection is required to use Office LTSC 2021.
- LTSC stands for Long Term Service Channel.
